It is not easy to prepare for a competition. Whether it is a dance completion, an athletic completion or any other competition, tension is likely to run high especially during the last stage. However, the fact is that you can never win a competition if you have not taken time to practice well. How you perform in stage is determined by how well you prepare. First, it is imperative to check at your nutrition. As a dancer, nutrition plays an essential role in performance. During the last week of the competition, it is important to train without taking a lot of carbohydrates to deplete glycogen storage. You can focus more on protein intake. However, as the day nears, you can resume eating carbohydrates and reduce the amount of training that you undertake. During the competition day, ensure that you have some food three hour before the competition begins.

Sleep is of great importance if you are going to win the competition. Remember that your body is likely to be fatigued due to the many months of practice. If you continue fatiguing your body even the day proceeding the day of competition, you will not have enough energy to showcase your best during the competition.

Apart from sleeping, ensure that you relax in the right way. Many people tend to overwork themselves during the last few days to the big days. Others allow anxiety to overtake them to an extent that they cannot relax. However, this is wrong. It is good to take things easy and give your body ample time to relax and build up some energy.

Avoid doing things the last minute. It is common to find some people who realize that their costumes are not ironed or their shoes are not in the right condition few hours to the competition. The worst thing you can do before any competition is to corrupt your mind. More than ever, you need to remain positive that all will be well. At times, you are likely to feel as if you have not done enough. However, you should not allow the feeling of inadequacy overwhelm you.

There is nothing much you may be able to change during the last few hours to the competition. Sadly, this is the time you may begin to notice some of the weaknesses that you have. This is not right as it may rob your confidence. Keep your mind focused on your strong points and avoid as much as possible thinking about your weak points. After all, if you are methodical in portraying your strong points, you can hide all your weak areas.
