Hiring A Pet Sitter Hinsdale

By Joyce Gray

For most pet owners, there come times when it becomes necessary to leave their precious animal companions alone. Whether going away on vacation or traveling for business, there will be occasions when you cannot take your pets with you. Consequently, it is important for animal lovers to find an appropriate Pet Sitter Hinsdale.

The best way to find one is to ask your veterinarian or friends who have pets for recommendations. There may be people who do it occasionally, like I do, just not as a business. Some sitters will advertise in the yellow pages or newspapers. Most will leave flyers or business cards with veterinarians.

Your Dog is not exposed to other dogs' diseases and germs! This habit of boarding is too dangerous to his well being to the extent there is an illness brought by and named after it. Kennel cough is a term that is commonly used to describe a highly contagious respiratory disease complex in dogs and cats.

Before arranging a meeting with an animal carer, establish exactly what duties you require him, or her, to perform and how frequently you need these tasks carried out. For example, some carers will visit an animal once per day for twenty to thirty minutes. However, dogs may need more regular visits. You may find it helpful to draw up a list of the chores you would like the carer to fulfill, as this can be discussed at the meeting.

Be sure to plan well in advance, as carers are usually in heavy demand. You should ask for the carer's fees and policies in writing, so you know exactly what to expect. I would suggest getting references; a trustworthy businessperson will have these readily available. Ask what other kinds of animal experience the person has. Someone with veterinary experience, such as a technician, is a good choice for special needs pets. A dog trainer, or someone who has trained a few animals will know how to handle dogs with behavioral issues. A groomer will have experience handling both dogs and cats in stressful situations.

Price! Kennels charge by the size and number of the dogs and can become very costly. Dog sitters charge a modest per visit fee based on the number of dogs in your home and with multiple dogs, you likely will pay less than what a kennel will charge.

During the initial consultation, some animal sitters will request payment. Be sure that you are happy with your choice of sitter before handing over any money. Remember, this person will have the keys and alarm codes to your house as well as the care of your animal. So it is extremely important that you trust them implicitly.

Leaving the pets behind can add unnecessary stress to your trip. Knowing that you have hired an experienced pet sitter and that you have provided her with everything she needs to do the job right can help ease that stress.
